This guide shows which battery, current, operating, charging and communication parameters must be confirmed before selecting a BMS for an AGV lithium battery.
Start with the AGV Operating Pattern
AGV means automated guided vehicle. The application name alone does not define the BMS. Confirm how the vehicle drives, stops, carries loads and charges during a normal shift. This operating pattern is often called the duty cycle.
Confirm the Battery Configuration
Provide battery chemistry, exact series count, nominal pack voltage and capacity. Do not infer the S count from nominal voltage alone.
Define Continuous and Peak Battery Current
Confirm the sustained battery-side current during normal operation, then record the highest peak current together with its duration and how often it repeats. Acceleration, climbing, turning or auxiliary lifting mechanisms can change the current profile.
Include Charging Strategy
AGVs may use scheduled charging or short charging opportunities during operation. Confirm the charger model, charging current and charging schedule for the actual fleet rather than assuming one charging method for all AGVs.
Confirm Controller and Communication Requirements
If battery data must be exchanged with the vehicle controller, charger or fleet-management system, identify the required communication interface and protocol. If a programmable logic controller (PLC) is part of the system, include its communication requirements as well.
