Will a DALY BMS Work With My Inverter? Start With the Protocol, Not the Connector
If you are building a 48V LiFePO4 storage pack, the battery management system (BMS) and the inverter must exchange data — state of charge, voltage, current, and protection status — over a communication protocol. The most common question we receive is simply: "Will your BMS work with my inverter?" This guide explains how to answer that correctly, and which mainstream inverter brands DALY's energy-storage BMS has been tested with.
For current-rating selection, start from the 48V LiFePO4 BMS selection guide. This article covers the communication-compatibility step only.
Why a Matching Connector Is Not the Same as Protocol Compatibility
A CAN (Controller Area Network) or RS485 port on both devices only means the physical wiring can connect. It does not mean the two devices understand each other. Communication works only when the BMS and the inverter speak the same protocol — the agreed data format the inverter expects (for example a Pylontech-style or Growatt-style protocol profile).
Step 1: Identify Your Inverter's Interface and Protocol
From your inverter's manual, confirm three things: (1) the communication interface it uses for the battery — CAN, RS485, or both; (2) the exact inverter model and firmware version; and (3) the battery/BMS protocol profiles the inverter lists as supported. Inverters commonly accept a named protocol such as a Pylontech, Growatt, Deye, Victron, or SMA profile.
Step 2: Check DALY's Tested Protocol Compatibility
DALY's energy-storage BMS supports a range of mainstream inverter protocol profiles over both RS485 and CAN. Every protocol below has been validated through parallel-pack real-machine joint commissioning, not only on paper. Use the tables as a starting reference, then confirm your exact model with the DALY engineering team (Step 3).
RS485 protocols
| Protocol profile | Compatible inverter brands |
|---|---|
| Voltronic | Voltronic Power |
| Growatt | Growatt, Sacolar |
| SRNE | SRNE |
| Pylontech | Pylontech, SOFAR |
| Deye | Deye, Sacolar |
CAN protocols
| Protocol profile | Compatible inverter brands |
|---|---|
| Growatt | Sacolar, Growatt |
| Victron | Victron |
| Pylontech | GoodWe, Sol-Ark, Xtender |
| SMA | SMA |
| Deye | Deye |
| AISWEI | AISWEI |
| SOFAR / MUST | SOFAR, MUST |
All protocols above are validated through parallel-pack real-machine joint commissioning. Supported profiles are updated over time — confirm the current list for your inverter with DALY engineering.
Step 3: Confirm the Exact Model and Protocol Profile With Engineering
A brand appearing above means DALY has tested that protocol — but inverter behaviour can vary by model and firmware version. Do not assume that because your brand is listed, your specific inverter model and firmware are automatically covered. Send DALY your exact inverter model so engineering can confirm the correct protocol profile and the matching BMS model for your system.
Frequently Asked Questions
Q1My inverter has a CAN port and so does the BMS — does that mean they are compatible?
Not on its own. A shared CAN or RS485 port only confirms the wiring can connect. Compatibility requires both devices to use the same protocol profile. Confirm the protocol, not just the connector.
Q2Is a DALY BMS compatible with Deye / Victron / Growatt inverters?
DALY's energy-storage BMS has been tested with these mainstream brands over CAN and/or RS485. Because behaviour can vary by model and firmware, send your exact inverter model to DALY engineering to confirm the correct protocol profile and BMS model.
Q3CAN or RS485 — which should I use?
Use whichever interface and protocol your inverter supports for battery communication. Some brands are supported over RS485, some over CAN, and some over both. Your inverter manual specifies which it expects.
Q4My inverter brand is not in the list — can it still work?
Possibly. The list covers tested mainstream profiles and is updated over time; some inverters also accept a widely used profile such as Pylontech. Send your inverter model to DALY engineering to check current options.
